The situation
A major brand-name pharmaceutical company uses SAP for most of its business processes, including manufacturing. Decentralised operations create the need for remote financial approvals on a timely basis, while preserving the highest levels of identity management for approvers.
bioLock was installed within SAP to implement workflow approvals with biometric identity management, and to speed up the SAP digital signature process.
How the process works
- A custom workflow prioritises large transactions that exceed a threshold value
- Those transactions are routed to the appropriate approver by email
- The approver opens a web page listing the payments awaiting approval
- Biometric identification must occur for the approval to update in SAP
- The payment is sent only after successful biometric identification and credential verification
Approval of such high-value transactions involves mandatory biometric authentication of the SAP user, including high-ranking executives. Workflow items are only passed on after successful biometric authentication of the activity.

- Control of high-value payment approvals, with a tamper-proof audit trail inside SAP
